Lauren Hanan (b. 2003, Bloomington, IN) is a Chicago-based mixed media artist currently studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, she developed a love for nature and honed her artistic skills in an environment that valued healing through creativity. Growing up in a medical household, Lauren witnessed the transformative power of art, which inspired her passion for becoming an art therapist.
Hanan’s work engages in a dialogue between humanity and nature, focusing on themes of overconsumption and environmental mindfulness. She is deeply committed to reflecting her ecological values in every piece she creates. This commitment drives her to select materials thoughtfully, favoring recycled fabrics, naturally dyed textiles, and repurposed everyday items. Each element is chosen not only for its aesthetic potential but also for its role in fostering a broader conversation about sustainability and mindful consumption.
At the heart of Hanan’s practice is a profound love for textiles, which she combines with a diverse array of mediums to explore their materiality. Through her mixed media approach, she aims to provoke reflection and dialogue about our impact on the world around us while creating a meditative space for viewers to engage with these themes. Her work transcends artistic endeavor; it represents a personal and collective exploration of coexistence with the natural world and a journey toward more harmonious practices.
